An adult volunteer is matched for one year to a child at a school
or recreational community center mentoring site. During the school
year, they meet once a week at the site. In summer they maintain
contact through phone calls, e-mail or mail. Site-based mentoring,
which takes place after school or over the lunch hour, has a combined
academic and recreational focus.
Site-based Bigs and Littles meet at the same time every week for
an hour to two hours. All activities take place at the site. Depending
on the school or Club where they meet, they might spend their time:
- Doing homework
- Shooting hoops
- Reading to each other
- Creating art
- Playing board or card games
