Big Brothers Big Sisters Outcomes
 |
“My Big Brother Dennis is a good
influence on my life, he cares about me, and is interested
in my education. Without him I would be like I was before
he came into my life, which was: being mean to others, disrespecting
especially to my teachers, and being angry all the time. Dennis
really helped me grow into a better person.”
- Little Brother Alexander

National studies have shown the significant impact of Big Brothers
Big Sisters mentoring. Our own program outcome evaluations confirm
the success our programs make in the lives of Milwaukee and Waukesha
County children. In 2006, the positive development of “Littles”
in the school-based program was especially noteworthy:
- 78% were better prepared for their classes
- 80% developed better relationships with adults
- 82% were getting along better with their peers
By providing mentors for children who have one or both parents
prison or jail, we're helping to break the intergenerational cycle
of incarceration that could prevent thousands of children in our
community from leading happy, productive lives. According to BBBS
program evaluation surveys, after having a Big Brother or Sister
for a year or longer,
- 70% of children of prisoners showed increased self-confidence,
- 67% developed better relationships with adults and
- 57% improved their academic performance.
