of Metro Milwaukee

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee is a 501(c)(3), non-profit agency. We are one of the largest affiliates of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the premier youth mentoring organization in the United States. For more than 30 years, we've connected thousands of children and volunteers through powerful, one-to-one mentoring relationships that promote healthy growth and achievement.

Our Mission
To help children in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties reach their full potential through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships.

Children Served
In 2009, we supported more than 2,000 mentoring relationships.

Service Area
We serve the children and families of Milwaukee County and Waukesha County, an area that is home to more then 56,000 "at-risk" youth.

Programs
We serve youth through two types of mentoring programs: community-based and site-based. Both involve a one-on-one, friendship-based relationship between a caring, adult volunteer and a child aged 6-18. Every mentoring relationship receives ongoing, professional support from an experienced staff member, who fosters relationships, supervises for safety and measures youth development outcomes--a trademark of Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring.

Program Outcomes
Here's how a consistent, positive relationship improved the lives of our Little Brothers and Little Sisters in 2009*:

• 59% of children were better prepared for school
• 58% had better relationships with adults and peers
  
• 67% had improved academic performance
• 79% were more self-confident
• 95% maintained or improved ability to avoid delinquency
• 99% maintained or improved ability to avoid substance abuse
